We are seeking a full time or part time orthoptist to join our team, starting in April 2021.

Northern Sydney Cataract is a modern ophthalmic practice on Sydney’s lower north shore. We specialise in  a broad range of subspecialties – cataract surgery, surgical and medical retina, and oculoplastic surgery.

We are currently seeking full time or part time experienced orthoptist or ophthalmic technician to join us. You will be providing support for 5 consulting Ophthalmologists. You must be a team player with excellent communication skills and possess the ability to be proactive and to work autonomously in a busy environment. You must have strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills. Strong interpersonal skills and a high level of professionalism are key in being successful in this role.

The position involves vision assessment, history taking, visual fields, OCT, Optos, IOL Master 700, Specular Microscopy, Pentacam corneal topography. Administrative duties including but not limited to working at the reception desk, patient bookings and organising theatre lists, medical correspondence dispatch. This role requires someone with the ability to work a range of flexible hours from 7:30am till 6pm within Monday till Friday to suit the clinics requirements. This role can be offered on a part time or full time basis dependent on the applicant.

Medical Receptionist

We are seeking a medical receptionist to join our team. This position will primarily manage the day to day workflow of the front desk, ensuring the smooth operation of patient clinics. We seek someone who understands the commitment of working in a small and cohesive team that prioritise patient care, and someone who demonstrates a high level of professionalism and reliability. Experience in specialist medical reception and administration is an advantage. This is not a position that can be done remotely.

Essential Criteria – to be considered, candidates must have:

  • A genuine interest and passion for the medical/healthcare sector and providing patients with a superior level of customer service
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong customer focus
  • Excellent phone manner and ability to deal politely with patient queries
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Ability to prioritise
  • Attention to detail in a professional industry
  • Excellent writing and general computer skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong time management skills and immaculate presentation
  • Experience using medical practice management software is desirable, particularly Shexie
  • Advanced skills and understanding in medical billing, including ECLIPSE
  • Well groomed and professional

The Job:

  • 30 hours per week available
  • Rosters will vary between 8.00am and 6pm
  • All aspects of Reception duties
  • Ad-hoc duties
  • Bus stop at door from North Sydney and Crows Nest

Some of your day to day responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Managing incoming telephone calls, emails and general patient enquiries
  • Meet and greet of patients visiting the practice
  • Managing patient bookings and ensuring the smooth day to day running of patient clinics
  • Liaising with hospitals, patients and other referring specialists
  • Patient billing and receipting for consultations
  • Dispatching of medical correspondence

Other required skills and attributes:

  • Strong team working ethics, ability to work well within a small team environment
  • Competent knowledge of Medicare guidelines
  • Highly professional, with strong initiative and organisational skills
  • Friendly, flexible, efficient and energetic person with a positive outlook
